BOSTON UNIVERSITY HOCKEY TEAM HOSTS SPECIAL YOUTH CLINIC IN HARLEM, NYC!

Harlem, NY:       EDUCATION IS THE GOAL!!!!! It was a days of smiles in Central Park…..

College hockey’s most acclaimed team, the Boston University Terriers, held a historic clinic for the kids of Hockey In Harlem at Lasker Rink in Central Park while in New York City to play against Cornell University at Madison Square Garden.

Inspiring Harlem youth to stay in school, live a healthy lifestyle, and to strive for personal goals on and off the ice – members of the Terriers interacted with the kids on and off the ice.

The BU players and IHIH kids exchanged gifts at center ice and Boston University donated books to the IHIH reading and literacy program.

BU Athletic Director Mike Lynch presented a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bloomberg that today is “Ice Hockey In Harlem Day.”  Ice Hockey In Harlem Executive Director John Sanful presented BU with a Harlem Rangers jersey.

Hockey icon, Mike Eruzione, who was the team captain for the famed “Miracle on Ice” USA hockey team of the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY and Boston University alumnus, also interacted with the kids; talking about the importance of education, fitness and civic responsibility.

About IHIH:    Itsmission is to improve the social and academic well being of children from the Harlem community. Our organization offers programming that allows children in our community to take advantage of the educational and athletic opportunities provided by youth sports. Through participation in ice hockey, IHIH student-athletes learn the fundamentals of the game, engage in an active lifestyle and broaden their life experiences.

This season there are 240 students registered with 74 volunteer coaches. IHIH has expanded upon the girls program created last season by entering the Lady Harlem U12 team in a league that competes in New Jersey, Long Island and its home at Lasker Rink in NYC Central Park.
