Backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in midtown before his highly anticipated Fashion Week New York presentation, Malan talked about how his new collection is inspired by the East Coast of Taiwan and the indigenous peoples.

Stylist Timothy Walkinhood spoke of how the runway model’s hair designs are inspired from the 1920s and 1970s.

Malan Breton also noted how New York theater inspires his work. Actor, producer, television host Frankie Grande (brother of pop singer Ariana Grande) praised Breton’s work shortly before wearing Malan’s designs before an adoring crowd. Acclaimed theater actor and star of the hit series Mad Men, Bryan Batt, revealed the excitement of appearing in a Malan presentation! Model Cheryl Lin noted how Malan’s designs exude diversity and beauty.

At the show’s grand finale, NeNe Leakes, star of Real Housewives of Atlanta, emerged in a Malan creation that reportedly costs one million US dollars to produce as she hugged fashion’s rising star amid cheers of approval! NeNe’s beautiful beaded gown was inspired by the owls Malan saw on a recent trip back to his home of Taiwan.
