Israeli National Olympic Baseball Team Concludes U.S. Tune Up Tour. July 2021 - Maimonides Stadium, Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY:

NYC VIBE was on the field with the Israeli National Olympic Baseball team in the first of a series of games to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.

Team Israel beat the FDNY 12-3 lead by former major and minor league stars now joined together for one common goal - to win a Gold medal.

The team is now in Tokyo and will compete against five other qualifying countries: the U.S., Japan, the Dominican Republic, Korea and Mexico.

It was just four years ago, the team was ranked 48th in the world, but came together with the right mix of players to qualify for the World Baseball Classic advancing to the tournament’s second round. In 2019, Team Israel continued the momentum to qualify for the Olympics.

Baseball will not be played during the 2024 Paris Games but will return in 2028 in Los Angeles.

Under Olympic rules, players can be on the team if they travel to Israel and obtain citizenship, which the country grants to anyone with at least one Jewish parent, a grandparent or a spouse.

In the past 10 years, the team has brought 18 American players to Israel to make aliya, which is Hebrew term for granting citizenship.

In 2017, the team used a private jet owned by the Las Vegas casino owner Sheldon Adelson to fly players to Israel to receive their citizenship, including former major leaguers, Ike Davis, Ryan Lavarnway and Jon Moscot.

First game up in Tokyo, Team Israel against South Korea on Thursday July 29.

Working with President Spike Lee, are five women and 3 men of seven nationalities, coming from five continents privileged to discover the 24 films of the 2021 international competition. NYC VIBE Rides on the Floats with the Hometown Heroes. Wednesday, July 7, 2021:

Mayor de Blasio hosted New York City’s “Hometown Heroes” parade and ceremony, which departed from Manhattan’s Battery Park and headed up Broadway to pass by City Hall where the mayor, the First Lady and elected officials greeted each from the stage.

The parade honored all the essential workers who brought New York City through the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and featured 14 different floats with more than 2500 participants, making it one of the largest ticker tape parades in the city’s history. Queens nurse Sandra Lindsay, the first person in the United States to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, served as the parade’s Grand Marshal.

NYC VIBE was on the route and spoke to many who were thanked and shown appreciation for their service to the City.

The Ticker Tape Parade kicked off from Battery Park and traveled north along Broadway to City Hall.

Sandra Lindsay, the Queens nurse who became the first person in the United States to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, led the parade and served as Grand Marshal while Mayor de Blasio was on a float alongside hospital workers.

The parade featured 260 groups, 10 bands and 14 specialty vehicles. Live musical acts performed during the parade included The World’s Best 80’s Band, Jessie’s Girl.

“It was truly an honor and privilege to serve as the grand marshal in the Hometown Heroes ticker tape parade and represent all health care and essential workers whose heroic efforts saved lives during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sandra Lindsay, Director, Nursing Critical Care at Northwell Health and the first person in the United States to receive the COVID-19 vaccine - told NYC VIBE as she came off the stage.

Fourteen floats, representing 260 different groups of essential workers, joined the parade down the Canyon of Heroes.

The Embassy of France in the U.S., the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Cnam) partnered to bring an emblematic treasure and symbol of freedom to the United States. Arriving in New York City for Independence Day and in Washington, D.C. for Bastille Day, the 9-foot, bronze statue of Lady Liberty is was made from the original plaster model of 1878 by Auguste Bartholdi, which was exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Paris.

NYC VIBE was invited by the French Ambassador to the U.S., to join him on Ellis Island for the unveiling of the statue ceremony.

The statue is on display on Ellis Island from July 1-5, facing her sibling to celebrate Independence Day, in cooperation with the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and the National Park Service.

She will then be transported by road to her final destination, the French Ambassador to the U.S.’s Residence in Washington, D.C., where she will stand starting July 14, on Bastille Day, as a symbol of the strong, longstanding French-American friendship.

NYC VIBE caught up with the ageless musician Debbie Harry and her crew introducing their documentary Blondie: Vivir En La Habana. The film covers the legendary rock band’s 2019 performance in Havana, Cuba as part of a cultural exchange program arranged by the Cuban Ministry of Culture.

Blondie members Debbie Harry and Clem Burke, director @robrothnyc , Tribeca Festival co-founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal, and special guests Fab 5 Freddy, @rebeccahall , and Morgan Spector were greeted by the media on the red carpet in lower Manhattan.

After the film premiere, the audience was treated to an energetic on stage concert, singing along as Blondie performed some of their biggest hits, including, “Rapture,” “Call Me,” “One Way or Another,” and “The Tide is High.”

The original plan, shooting on film, was to produce a short following Blondie’s performances in Cuba and visits to the neighborhoods but expanded to a full-length documentary. Narrated by Harry, guitarist Chris Stein (who was unable to make the trip), and drummer Clem Burke, following Debbie Harry and the rest of the band on their collaborative journey with local musicians in Cuba, the four-day exchange marked the band’s first time in the country after wanting to visit since their inception 45 years prior.

The band performed two concerts in the country with three local musicians on stage as the opening act for each show. The artists included Síntesis, a 12-piece disco, rock, and Latin music group; pop performer David Torrens; and salsa performer Alain Perez, who plays with a 12-piece band as well.

There are things you knew, you didn’t and just found out and that was the mind blowing experience the NYC VIBE team just experienced after watching the Jackie Collins Bio-Pic at the Tribeca Film Festival.

NYC VIBE was invited to spend time with Jackie’s two daughters and the film’s director Laurie Fairrie earlier in the day to dive deeper into who Jackie was, her talents, skills, personal life and the impact to this day she has on all of us.

Jackie Collins’ daughters, Rory Green and Tiffany Lerman, joined director Laurie Fairrie prior to the public screening at Pier 76 of Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story to share their experience creating the documentary about their late mother, which included reading through her old diaries.

In all, Collins, the younger sister of actress Joan Collins, sold more than half a billion books in over 40 countries, writing 32 novels.

The documentary draws on family photographs, home movies, audio recordings of Collins’ books, and excerpts from Collins’ personal diaries.
The film covers Jackie’s two marriages, including to the “love of her life,” Oscar Lerman, who encouraged Collins to pursue writing right up to the time of passing in 2015 at the age of 77.

The Gansevoort Plaza in New York City became a floral oasis when the L.E.A.F. Flower Show took over during the weekend, becoming a European-style flower market, with 25 floral pillars, each over six feet high, on display with most of the shops and restaurants which hosted installations on the premises.

In addition to the flower market, L.E.A.F brought in over 100 florists to design magnificent creations using more than a million flowers.

It took founder Moira Breslin over five years to organize and arrange the show and faced the Covid city shutdown delaying the event by a year - She turned to the Meatpacking Business Improvement District which recently unveiled its newly constructed 30,000-square-foot area with a pedestrian zone, making it the first major event the district has held there.

The inaugural programming was free to attend, but is expected to become a paid ticketed event next year offering programming including lectures, master classes and of course parties.

June 2021 - Times Square, NYC: NYC VIBE was invited by the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau Outreach Division to witness the reopening of New York with a celebration in New York's Times Square. US Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) welcomed the crowd of more than 300 who gathered in Foley Square
thanking everyone who has been vaccinated and encouraging everyone else to get their shot to help keep NY safe and to allow for a strong re-opening!

The festival included booths to learn more about health and safety precautions coming out of the dark days of the Covid pandemic and what we can do to protect each other and ourselves. COVID-19 Testing & Vaccinations were made available on site.

The event was capped off by a performance from the NYPD Latino musical group lead by Captain Alexander Cedillo and a very talented orchestra made up of NYC's finest!

The day was organized by police officers Michelle Giglio, Akeya Willson and Nicholas Naglieri, all dedicated and passionate public servants.

On a hot June Sunday afternoon, Katherine Wildish assembled her master classes in New York Central Park for a focused and determined workout session.

It doesn't matter which Broadway show, movie, stage or TV program you just worked on, you were here today to learn something new and to improve and add to your repertoire.

Kat's students have been seen on stage in Aladdin, Chicago, The King and I, Disney’s Frozen, King Kong, The Radio City Rockettes, and countless TV and movie productions. Kat also produces several NYC theater showcases each year, casting up to 250 dancers.

To study with Kat is to be the beneficiary of superlative technical training, a lifetime of accumulated ballet lore, and a generous, elegant spirit. She prepares her students not only to dance beautifully, but to live with grace, harmony, and presence.

NYC VIBE spooke with the dancers who each has the deepest admiration and respect for what she has done for the industry and for her students in general.

With over 40 years of teaching and professional dance experience, she brings elite ballet training to dance studios and individual dancers internationally and through online lessons due to the pandemic has been able to reach more ballet dancers around the world than ever.

For many of the dancers who braved the hot NY sun that day, it's now onto tryouts and rehearsals as Broadway and Lincoln Center are coming back!

Hundreds attend NYC Times Square Rally in Solidarity with Israel. Wednesday May 12, 2021, NYC Times Square:

NYC VIBE was at the red steps in NYC Times Square to listen to the passionate speakers addressing the hundreds of New Yorkers who gathered to support Israel during these tense times in the Middle East.

The rally was put together by the Israel American Council, which organized similar demonstrations throughout North America.

Just hours after the peaceful rally concluded, the IDF called up reservists as rockets continue to land in Israel
The non-stop rocket attack barrage comes as the IDF prepares for a possible ground invasion into the Gaza Strip. The military presented plans on Thursday to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Israeli military is prepared to continue with its strikes on Hamas and other terror groups in the Gaza Strip for several days, sources tell NYC VIBE, and has called up 7,000 reservists as rocket attacks continue to land in central and southern Israel.

Hamas launched suicide drones loaded with explosives into Israel on Thursday. At least two exploded in the air over central Israel. The drone attacks were preceded by the firing of 20-30 long-range rockets directed at central Israel, including Tel Aviv, and as far south as Eilat. Four people were reported injured.

In the heart of Times Square on Wednesday evening, the speakers called for peace and an end to the rocket attacks between Hamas and Jerusalem.

NYC VIBE spoke with Acting Israeli NY Consul General, Ambassador Israel Nizan about his thoughts on the violence and and the root of the issue.

Republican-Primary Mayoral candidate Fernando Mateo, offered his support for Israel to the crowd.

Rabbi Jacob Shmuel Boteach, founder of the World Values Network, was passionate and direct where the blame lies - claiming this was instigated by Hamas.

The NYPD was in full force and reported no issues or arrests.
