January 2018 – The Women’s Media Center is honoring individuals who have worked to ensure that women have a powerful and visible voice in the media at the Women’s Media Awards.
The Women’s Media Center was founded in 2005 by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem. Jane Fonda was honored at this years awards along with other influential women, who have distinguished themselves in several fields – Including journalism, law, business, film, television and government.
The Women’s Media Center has made great accomplishments in its 12 year history. A status report of Women in the US Media produced some recent findings that are encouraging: TV news saw a record rise in minority female news directors and an increase overall in the minority workforce. For traditional print journalism – females accounted for more than a third of American society of news editors and newsroom employees overall.
New York City is the Media Capital of the world. The Media shapes us, informs our ideas, and reminds us who we are and what we can be. The Women’s Media Center is doing their part to make sure that an equal part of the media is properly represented by the hard working women of America.
