NYC VIBE at the Winter Film Fest

May 2018 – On the eve of the Academy Awards, There was another film awards ceremony you may have not been aware of…until now. This event honored amazing movies by the next generation of filmmakers, some of whom may go on to win a coveted Oscar one day!

NYC VIBE was backstage at the Winter Film Awards at the world famous Copacabana in Manhattan!

The Winter Film Awards are minority and women owned, and run entirely by volunteers. This year’s festival offered something for every film fan, including documentaries, narratives, music videos, and even horror movies. Sponsored in part by the New York City Department of cultural affairs in partnership with the city council and the New York State Council of the Arts, the Winter Film Festival Awards reflected the eclectic diversity of New York City, and the excitement of the independent arts world.

21 student films and 32 first time filmmakers presented their work at the 2018 festival. 40 percent of the films were produced by people of color. The Winter Film Festival presented movies which offered an alternative to big budget productions. Many of these winter films addressed topics and stories that are often overlooked by the mainstream studios.

Every filmmaker, actor, producer, director, and writer at the Winter Film Festival appreciated the attention given to their work. Even though the Oscars grab the international headlines, It’s the Winter Film Awards which make “reel” movie news! See you next winter!
