The Bronx has arrived – On Broadway! At the Longcare Theater!

NYC VIBE sat down with veteran actor Chazz Palminteri to take a closer look at the A Bronx Tale – which is the NY actor’s inspirational coming of age story as a boy growing up in the Belmont Avenue neighborhood.

In Los Angeles in 1988 unknown Actor Chazz Palminteri wrote a solo play – A Bronx Tale – about his memories of growing up in the Italian section of the Bronx

It debuted in New York a year later and received accolades with a successful off-Broadway run. The play attracted actor Robert De Niro – who eventually starred in and directed a 1993 film version of the play.

The Broadway Musical offers a narration that goes beyond the Italian American Stereotype that so many think it represents. Mirroring the autobiographical experiences of Chazz as a young man, it offers the audience a soulful insight into a community as it used to be, with all the idiosyncrasies and beliefs.

The musical also features the collaborative efforts from a few other prominent New Yorkers, namely directors Robert De Niro and Jerry Zaks, along with legendary music producer Tommy Mottola.

With its Motown, Doo Wop and early Rock n’ Roll score, along with its gritty urban stage design, A Bronx Tale tells a universal story of love, fear, fatherhood, respect, family and loyalty.

In addition to Chazz being in movies and his broadway show, he is also a restaurateur –  with a location on 2nd avenue and soon he will open another one in Midtown, very close to Broadway.
