March 2017 – Your US Mail is about to get a lot more stylish! The United States Postal Service has launched a collection of forever stamps commemorating Oscar de la Renta!
He is the first fashion designer to be honored with his own stamp collection. De la Renta professed that “My role as a designer is to do the very best I can for that woman – and to make her feel her very best.
De la Renta, who passed away at the age of 82 in 2014, participated in several civic, cultural and philanthropic activities in New York City. He dressed First Lady Nancy Reagan in the 1980s, while also providing gowns for inaugural events for both Hillary Clinton in 1997 and Laura Bush in 2005.
An unveiling ceremony was held at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal. The stamps will be sold as a pane of eleven with one stamp featuring a black and white portrait of the designer, and ten additional stamps display the vibrant details from de la Renta’s gownsThe postal service says they will only print on run of stamps which could last a year or less.
